Building the Matrix for Machines: Accelerated Computing for Physical AI
BIO
Ming-Yu Liu is a Vice President of Research at NVIDIA and an IEEE Fellow. He leads NVIDIA’s Deep Imagination Research group and the Cosmos initiative, where his team advances generative AI for Physical AI — developing world foundation models that enable machines not only to perceive the world, but also to simulate, reason about, and interact with it.
Over the years, Ming-Yu and his team have helped pioneer multiple new product categories, from generative models powering global creative ecosystems to real-time neural graphics systems used by millions of developers and creators. His research has been widely published at top AI and graphics conferences, and his work focuses on translating cutting-edge research into platforms that developers and enterprises can build on.
He is driven by a bold vision: building what he calls the “Matrix for robots” — a physics-grounded simulated universe where machines can dream, rehearse, and accumulate experience safely at massive scale before acting in the real world.
